About

Hello! I'm Amanda Berg, owner of Berg Conserve LLC. I specialize in the conservation and restoration of natural history, archaeological, and fine art collections. I trained in the UK, earning my MA in Conservation Studies from the University of Sussex through West Dean College, focused on ceramics and related materials — hands-on training that put real emphasis on bench work and restoration technique, not just theory.

These days I work as a freelance conservator, which has taken me everywhere from dig sites to trade shows to private collections. I build official catalogues, make sure fragile and high-value pieces are packed and stored safely, and handle the practical repair work itself — all following current best practices for environmental tracking, condition reporting, and collections management.

My background includes freelance work centered on natural history (fossils), plus several years as an Objects Conservator at the Al Ain Museum in the UAE, where I worked across ceramic, glass, stone, metal, organic, and textile materials. Earlier on, I completed an internship in the Objects Conservation Department at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.

I currently teach Collection Management: Registration and Conservation at the University of Cincinnati, and work as a Production Technician at Rookwood Pottery — hands-on fabrication work that keeps me close to material behavior and structural repair on a daily basis.

Outside of work, I'm an avid ceramicist, craft enthusiast, and unapologetic "how hard could it be?" kind of problem-solver. I love a good puzzle, and I'm always looking for the next thing to learn.
