The object before treatment began. The breaks in the glass are clearly visible.
The original backing required removal to reveal the extent of the damage to the glass and to treat the object. This was carried out without damaging the frame so that the glass could later be remounted in its original housing.
The reverse (painted side) of the glass after the frame was removed. The object had been previously repaired and was very dirty.
Both sides of the glass and the break-edges were cleaned. The object’s sections were then bonded while laying flat.
After bonding, repairs to the paint were applied to a separate sheet of clear polyester archival sheeting. This sheet was placed behind the glass. The object was then remounted in the original frame with archival mounting board and new pins.
The object was re-backed with archival materials to seal it and protect the glass.
The object upon completion of treatment.
